The larger question many parents ask is how dangerous of a sport is football. The reality is that football
injuries are the most common of all sports injuries. In high school football alone, it is estimated that
there are about 500,000 football injuries per year in the United States. For every 1,000 times playing the
sport, an injury occurs about 4 times. The possibility of getting injured in college football, however, is
nearly twice as high as football injuries in high school. Nevertheless, avoidance of football entirely does
not have to be the only option. With the appropriate training, warm-ups, coaching, and doctor supervision
football injuries can be limited and playing football will be enjoyable for nearly all of the athletes
participating.
